Born in Quebec in 1974, he graduated in visual communication at the University of Applied arts (ESAA) of Geneva. After having worked successively as graphic designer at the Mamco (Museum of modern and contemporary art of Geneva) and within a communication agency, Nicolas Robel created his own company, B.ü.L.b factory, in 1999, combining under the same roof B.ü.L.b comix, a publishing house, and B.ü.L.b grafix, a studio of graphic art and art direction.
Cartoonist, publisher, he represents a strange mixture; his works are pierced by shadows much more real than one might think. One could also speak about his anxieties regarding Yeti hands (his fantastical tale Joseph), his propensity to create a world where he can talk to stuffed animals, his mania for all kind of lists ... Furthermore than this, Nicolas Robel has managed to create his own unique artistic language. Made of pink clouds and gray pencil strokes, urban typography and soothing watercolors.
